Mardi Himal: A Hidden Gem in the Annapurna Region
The Mardi Himal Trek is one of Nepal’s best-kept secrets — a short and serene adventure tucked into the majestic Annapurna region. Known for its dramatic ridge-line trails, pristine forest walks, and breathtaking views of Machapuchare (Fishtail), Mardi Himal offers a crowd-free experience for trekkers seeking solitude and stunning Himalayan scenery.
First opened to trekkers in 2012, this route has quickly become a favorite among those looking for an off-the-beaten-path alternative to the more popular Annapurna trails. With panoramic views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and the iconic Fishtail, Mardi Himal is a quiet, refreshing escape into alpine wilderness.
Climate & Best Seasons to Visit Mardi Himal
Like the rest of the Annapurna region, Mardi Himal’s climate is influenced by elevation and season. Here’s what to expect:
Spring (March to May) – Blooming Rhododendrons & Clear Views
Spring is ideal for Mardi Himal. Rhododendron forests are vibrant with color, and skies are generally clear, offering unobstructed views of snow-capped peaks.
Summer/Monsoon (June to August) – Wet but Lush
Monsoon season brings heavy rain and cloud cover. Trails may be slippery, and views are often obstructed. However, the forest becomes alive with greenery and solitude.
Autumn (September to November) – Crystal-Clear Himalayan Vistas
This is the most popular season due to stable weather, dry trails, and incredible mountain clarity. Crisp air and golden-hued landscapes create a picturesque trekking experience.
Winter (December to February) – Snow-Draped Serenity
Colder months bring snowfall to higher altitudes, creating a magical but more challenging trek. Lower altitudes are still accessible, and trails are less crowded.
